The Sticky on Sugar and Why it’s Bad for Your Health

I don’t know about you but I like the taste of sugar.  A lot of times we eat foods that although we can’t taste the sugar they are loaded with it.  Sugar laden foods are obviously good and we all enjoy them but the truth is sugar is bad news for your body.

Sugar is a sticky substance and if left in the bloodstream, rather than being burned as energy, the particles will stick to the cells.  So in simpler terms, a diet high in sugar will lead to a big range of health problems the obvious one being overweight.  Aside from that it will lead to more wrinkles, dry brittle nails and hair and even lack of mobility in the joints.
Cutting sugar out of your diet will not only help you lose weight it will help your skin look younger.  I didn’t quite understand this at first but it makes more sense now.  When you eat white flour products you are eating foods that are high in sugar.  Your white flour products are considered refined carbohydrates and they cause inflammation of your skin.  When your skin is inflamed it creates high levels of free radicals which attack collagen that keeps the skin firm.  So how does this all tie into keeping your skin looking younger?  If you continue eating a high sugar diet and your collagen is attacked you will notice that your skin isn’t firm and that in turn leads to wrinkles and poor skin tone.  So to keep your skin looking younger kick the sugar habit!

Not only are free radicals bad news for your skin they are also deadly for the body.  Free radicals can cause a lot of damage in healthy cells and lead to many illnesses of the body.

A lot of people reach for a sugary pop or snack in the afternoon when they are feeling sluggish because sugar raises your blood sugar level so quickly, giving you that ‘instant’ energy boost.  The problem is that it doesn’t last long and sugary foods are hard on your immune system.  When your body’s white cells are exposed to sugar they are less efficient at fighting of illness.

Our bodies weren’t made to handle such high sugar levels that we get because of our diets and lifestyles.  This is also why obesity and weight-related illnesses such as diabetes are at an all time high.  Even though sugar tastes good it is best if you can cut it out of your diet or at least eat it in moderation!

Cutting sugar out of your diet isn’t going to be easy, especially the first few weeks when you’ll experience cravings for it.  Fruit has natural forms of sugar so try eating a piece of fruit when you feel a sugar craving come on.  Give it a couple weeks and eventually your cravings will pass and not only will you feel better you’ll look better!
